Like silver, honey has been used for millennia for its antimicrobial properties. |

Almost every type of honey has the ability to attack microorganisms. However, due to several factors, particularly glucose oxidase and catalase activity, honey will degrade and lose its effectiveness. |

Moreover, all types of honey contain microscopic spores, which become active once the honey loses its antimicrobial properties, thus causing further problems to the wound. |

| This does not happen with the Active Leptospermum Honey, which maintains its strong antimicrobial properties even in the presence of glucose oxidase and catalase, thereby producing an active dressing for several days.
